I'm a Vegan or Vegetarian. Why can't I make any progress detoxing mold?

What is the role of Methionine in healing your body from toxic mold exposure?

Methionine is a sulfur-containing proteinogenic amino acid, acting as an intermediate in the biosynthesis of different phospholipids. It is important in single-carbon metabolism and helps the detoxification in the liver. (Ref 1)

Ok, so basically none of us understood anything I just said. I get it, it's hard to comprehend anything when our brains are under attack and inflamed from mold. For this reason, I'll try to make it as simple as possible.

  • Toxic mold and the mycotoxin it produces, kills DNA (Ref 2) and makes your liver toxic and sick.

  • Methionine is one of the essential amino acids that your liver MUST HAVE in order to:

    1. Repair DNA

    2. To detox all of those molds and mycotoxins out of your liver. In fact, the most vital purpose of Methionine in a toxic mold exposure is it prevents the breakdown of mycotoxin from damaging the liver. It acts as a powerful antioxidant to prevent damaged liver tissue caused by mycotoxin.

    3. Formation of antioxidants

    4. Formation of neurotransmitters

  • Our bodies DO NOT make Methionine on their own, Methionine MUST come from a food source.

  • Children and teens require approximately 800-1,000 mg of Methionine per day and the average adult (depending on their body size), need from 2,000 to 3,000mg of Methionine per day.

"But there are plant based sources of Methionine, so why can't I just consume those and get the methionine that I need to detox?"

Methionine is one of the essential amino acids most overlooked in the vegan and vegetarian diet. It's most often even an issue for the average vegan who is NOT mold sick. Methionine plays an even more critical role with those who have been poisoned by an exposure to toxic mold. As we discussed above, Methionine is an essential amino acid that can only be obtained through your diet, however......

The main sources of Methionine come from meat, fish and eggs.
Methionine is found in much smaller amounts in nuts, seeds, beans, whole grains and gluten.

To make this as simple as possible, almost all nuts, seeds, beans, whole grains and gluten are strictly prohibited on the PhazeMoldDiet until you are fully detoxed. You will learn this and the explanation of each and why as you go through all 8 Phazes of the diet. There are a few nuts and seeds that are allowed as you "Phaze" through your meals but overall, most nuts, beans, legumes, most seeds, all grains and no gluten are a part of the PhazeMoldDiet detox program. Because seeds, nuts, beans, legumes and grains contain only trace amounts of methionine and would need to be "over eaten" to consume the daily amount of methionine for "normal" liver detoxification, not to mention they'd need to be tripled in quantity to detox mold, it is safe to say that the over-consumption of seeds, nuts, grains and wheat gluten would not only be necessary to consume enough methionine, but it would also be the cause of the continuation of mold toxicity symptoms and a toxic liver due to the fact that most nuts and grains are considered moldy foods and contain large amounts of mycotoxin. To put things into a better perspective, here are some examples of foods that contain proper amounts of methionine vs foods that are not approved on the PhazeMoldDiet and the limited amount of methionine they contain.

  • Wild caught Cod = 477mg methionine

  • Wild caught Sardines = 374mg methionine

  • Pastured Egg = 150mg methionine

PhazeMoldDiet-approved (plant based foods examples), 1 serving *(REF 6)

  • Organic Hemp Seeds = 265mg methionine

  • Organic Pumpkin Seeds = 171mg methionine

  • Organic Chia Seeds = 167mg methionine

  • Organic Tahini = 167mg methionine

  • Organic Sesame Seeds = 159mg methionine

  • Organic Pumpkin Seeds =

  • Organic Walnuts = 133mg methionine

  • Organic Flax Seed = 105mg methionine

  • Broccoli = 67mg methionine ........................and the farther down the list of vegetables the worse these numbers get.

A person requires between 2,000 - 4000mg of Methionine each day to facilitate proper liver detoxification. So as you can see, if you are relying on the plant based forms of methionine, you are falling WAY SHORT of the volume that it takes to complete your detoxification.

Please consider all of this scientific information before deciding to ignore the basics of liver detoxification and methionine's (quality meat, wild caught fish and pasture raised eggs) as an important role in the recovery from mold exposure.
